June 08, 2005

June is off to a great start! We are praising the Lord for His continued presence in our services. We have been traveling in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, stopping off in Cadillac on the way up to Pickford, and now Sault Ste. Marie. The UP is a beautiful place, surrounded with lots of water, green fields and small towns. Tomorrow we will head off to Munising, before leaving for Wisconsin on Friday.

We are currently on the Indian Reservation here in Sault Ste. Marie. The small, mission church sits next to a large casino, a beacon of hope for those around it. The little church was packed full, and extra chairs put out and filled as the service began. Right from the very beginning you could see God was at work as hands began to lift in praise, and tears began to stream down faces. When the invitation was given, a man came forward. The pastor came down and prayed with him there. Others began coming forward until the altars were full and overflowing. When they got up to leave I looked down and saw that the man had left something behind.

There at the altar were cigarettes and a lighter. He left it all there on the altar. It was very symbolic, a picture of what we are to do with all of our sins, all of our burdens. Lay it all down and the feet of Jesus and LEAVE it there.

Surrendered to Christ

So many times people come forward to pray, only to get back up still carrying some of their baggage with them. They don't really trust Jesus to take care of their problems.

Surrendered to Christ Close Up

They don't really trust Jesus to take care of their problems. They don't really believe they can "go and sin no more" as Jesus told all who came to Him. This man laid down his old baggage and left it behind. I pray you will do the same with the burdens and any sin that may be in your life. As you think of this story, remember to say a prayer for this man. Satan will surely try to drag this man back into his old, bad habit. We do believe that greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world! There is nothing more powerful that the power of the Holy Spirit at work. As long as we surrender to Christ, we will be victorious over sin!
